Events That Can Be Held to Celebrate Dooars Day

1. Light Festival – Local people will be requested to illuminate their homes, offices, clubs, temples, mosques, churches, gurudwaras, Buddhist temples, and other institutions with candles, oil lamps, or electric lights from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on 14th January 2025 (Tuesday).

2. Rakhi Bandhan – A celebration of Rakhi Bandhan across different communities and religions. Rabindranath Tagore initiated the Rakhi Bandhan festival during the Bengal Partition movement, and following his example, we wish to strengthen the bonds between people of different communities.

3. National Flag Hoisting – On 14th January 2025 (Tuesday) at 11:00 AM, the Indian national flag will be hoisted throughout the Dooars region.

4. Discussion on Development – Organize a discussion on what types of industries could be established in your area or what steps could be taken to improve health, education, communication, and agricultural systems in the region.

5. Dooars Awareness March – A local march with placards, banners, and posters. Slogans such as “We will conserve Dooars' forests and wildlife” could be featured.

6. Sports Competitions – Ludo competitions for women, carom competitions for boys, one-day football tournaments, and exhibition football or cricket matches involving people of different communities and religions.

7. Drawing Competition – A drawing competition focused on the forests, nature, and folk culture of Dooars. Students from different schools can participate in various categories based on their grade levels.

8. Cultural Dress Competition – Participants will dress up in the traditional attire of different languages or religious cultures.

The events that will take place in your locality and how they will be carried out will be decided at the local level, and those decisions will be final. This is just a guideline, but we hope that there is a basic similarity in the events held across different locations of Dooars. This guideline has been created with that thought in mind.

Things We Need to Do for Dooars Day Celebration

1. A meeting must be organized at the block level to form a 'Dooars Day' celebration committee. Special attention should be given to ensuring the participation of people from different linguistic and community backgrounds in this meeting. 

There are three districts in Dooars, from Odalabari to Kumargram, covering the Tista to Sankosh areas: Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar. The various blocks in these areas are:

- Kalimpong district : Gorubathan

- Jalpaiguri district : Mainaguri, Dhupguri, Mal, Metiali, Nagarakata, and Kranti

- Alipurduar district : Birpara, Alipurduar-1, Alipurduar-2, Falakata, Kalchini, and Kumargram.

2. A meeting will be called with the Block Development Officer (BDO) as the main convenor. The Panchayat Pradhan, Panchayat members, headmasters of schools, secretaries and presidents of school management committees, the Officer-in-Charge of the local police station, secretaries and presidents of local clubs, local doctors, secretaries and presidents of local business associations, self-help groups, journalists, and other prominent individuals should be invited to this meeting.

3. When forming the committee, care should be taken to ensure representation from different linguistic and religious communities.

4. The Dooars Day Celebration Committee at the block level will consist of the Block Development Officer (BDO) as the president, an executive president, a general secretary, three assistant secretaries, a treasurer, and seven or eleven executive members. There may also be several general members and advisory members.

5. A central committee based in Dooars will be formed with two representatives from each block-level committee. The central committee will coordinate the events across different areas and provide all possible support to ensure their success.

6. The committee formation at the local level should be completed by 30th November 2024. The central committee will be formed by the first week of December. The decisions you make at the local level regarding committee formation will be final.
